Governor Patrick avoided crossing an informational picket line organized by several police groups on Thursday February 4th by skipping the event all together. This is consistent with the Governor's tactics that he continues to strip police officers of their collective bargaining rights without sitting down and negotiating. According to several news accounts, approximately 100 police officers from the Boston Police Patrolman's Association, Boston Police Superior Officer's Federation, Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society, MassCOP, and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers organized outside the AFL-CIO's annual "State of the Union" conference at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor. The officers and their leadership should be commended for their efforts. Now, more than ever, we need to show a unified front. The MMPC has been working hard over the past two years organizing outreach and pickets against both "flaggers" and Quinn cuts. We must redouble out efforts and work harder than ever. The Governor continues to attack front-line police officers. The State Budget he filed last month cut Quinn by another $5 million. 100 Police Officers needs to be 1000 Police Officers. We need to show that we have had enough. We need to show this Governor and those that support him that we represent a very large voting block that actually votes in this state. We need to keep this Governor on the run until he is run out of office.
