In Memory of

Joseph J. Savioli

1944 - 2010

Joe became a Cambridge Police Officer in 1970 serving proudly as a K-9 officer for the

majority of his police career. During that time, he had three K-

9 partners, Bruin, Apache and finally Valk, who retired with

Joe in 1994.

Joe was proud and committed to his profession, meeting

people daily and making countless friendships with his no

pretense style and contagious personality. Although

devastated when he learned of his retirement, his love of the

K-9 and law enforcement kept his police persona in tact.

Joe passed away in the early morning hours on February 6th. It was truly a sad day and a

loss beyond compare to his family and close friends.

Honoring Joe's memory, The Cambridge Police Honor Guard paid a lasting tribute

standing tall and silent by his side while hundreds visited to pay a final farewell to a good

man, a trusted friend.

The following day, with the forecast of snow

that somehow disappeared, and surrounded by

family and friends, the Honor Guard

continued to guide Joe on his final journey.

Assisted by the professionalism of the

Cambridge Traffic Detail, a caravan of

mourners were safely escorted to the

Cambridge Cemetery, Joe's final place of rest.

We recall looking back and taking comfort seeing car after car. We were sad yet happy

to see such a large turnout following in the funeral procession. Joe was certainly smiling

down on us all with a larger than life smile. He would be pleased and proud.

But what happened next, would not only comfort us and make us smile but assure us that

Joe was happy knowing he made his mark in life.

As we approached the final road to the cemetery we could see blue lights flashing down

the road. Focused on a sea of blue through tear filled eyes, we saw countless K-9 police

units lining both sides of the street. As

the procession approached, officers

stood at attention and saluted with their

K-9’s at their heel while a lone officer

guided his K-9 before the hearse

entering the cemetery grounds. As the

procession continued, the faded song of

barking canines was replaced by a lone

piper playing in the distance. What an

absolute, honorable tribute to a K-9

officer of years ago by the family of K-9 officers of present. Our heartfelt thanks to

every officer who took the time to make this fellow K-9 officer arrive home in such

grandeur.

As the Honor Guard stood at attention, the ceremony concluded with a gun salute by the

Cambridge Officers standing tall among the aged monuments of the Cambridge

Cemetery with the sound of bagpipes in the distance.

Surrounded by loving family and friends, and the extended family of law enforcement

officers, old and new, Joe was laid to rest.

A special thank you to each

one of you for standing tall,

professional and true to one

of your own and your

profession.

God bless and protect you.

The family of,

Officer Joseph J. Savioli #375(CPD Retired)
